The Foundation’s mission is to provide long-term support for the Canadian Railroad Historical Association’s (CRHA) activities of preserving and interpreting Canada’s railway heritage, by soliciting donations which are invested to produce ongoing income, which is then given to the CRHA.Over the last twelve years the Foundation has received more than $3,1 million in gifts and made $348,000 in grants to the CRHA. Financial supporters have included CP and CN, other charitable foundations and many individuals, and the Foundation has benefited from major contributions by the Québec government through its Mécénat Placements Culture matching program. The Foundation is a registered charity under the tax laws of Canada, and authorized to issue receipts for financial contributions which can be used to reduce federal and provincial income taxes. It is governed by a Board of Directors made up of experienced business people and a professional financial manager, who collectively ensure that the investments are made prudently so as to provide steady income without taking excessive risk. The financial statements of the Foundation are reviewed by independent professional accountants, and are publicly available. The strong and stable investment base of the Foundation will enable it to make increasing annual distributions to the CRHA in the future.
There are many ways to make a financial donation to the Foundation, some of which can be very advantageous from a tax planning point of view. If you would like to find out how you can help preserve Canada’s railway heritage by making a gift or leaving a legacy bequest, please get in touch with us through the CRHA Executive Director.
